Costume Magic in Glass Onion
106In this video, we do a deep dive into all of Glass Onion’s costumes! We poured through interviews with costume designer Jenny Eagan, as well as the stars of the film Daniel Craig, Madelyn Cline, and Janelle Monae about what their favorite costumes were and why. They had a lot of tricky things to figure out when filming. One major difficulty they faced was the brutal heat in Greece. Did you know that one of Janelle Monae’s most chic outfits was actually a swimming suit? You would truly have no idea! She was wearing it so she could stand to be out in the heat for the entirety of the shoot. There are also hidden meanings in the literal chosen fabrics. Let’s take Miles for example – he’s a fraud who hasn’t had a single original thought in his entire life. He’s dressed in grounding linens and cashmere to keep in pulled into reality, but the truth of the matter is, there’s not one ounce of reality in his character. There’s also Lionel’s wishbone pennant that symbolizes luck and adventure – a direct correlation to the plot! This entire film is riddled with hints and clues that start early on in the script. There are also subtle differences that tell Helen apart from Andi. Check out the way her makeup is done or the color of her hair and you’ll start to notice how intentional her character design was.
