MUTE Recommendation (5 stars out of 5)
PSX CRASH BANDICOOT 2: CORTEX STRIKE BACK : *****
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Graphic * (great)
sharp, colorful, and crispy. 3D depth is also good, especially beautiful psx graphic.
Gameplay * (great)
With lower difficulty from the last title it fells more balanced now and somehow encourage first timer to go for 100% completion.
Save point is available from the start and accessible everytime in the hub room.
A new mechanic of crouching and crawling, also higher jump method, so do sliding and heavy stomping.
New vehicles introduced: jetpack, jetski, polar bear.
Replayability * (normal)
There are 2 endings in the game (at least that what the game suggests).
Story * (okay)
Now with clearer story and motives for both hero and villain.
Sound * (good)
Improve from the last title where it's now more than just environmental atmospheric music.
Overall : The game's challenges are moderate and just right make it's welcoming to be played over and over. Movement is responsive and although sometimes challenges come from the viewpoint that cause depth perception problem, it is mostly intentional to make the stage harder. But with save point generously accessible before each stage, nothing is so frustating for main story playthrough. And since the difficulty is also lighter than the first title, this somehow could be a good title to enter the franchise.
