Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is an upcoming platform game developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision. It is the eighth main installment in the Crash Bandicoot series and the fourth chronologically, acting as a follow-up to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and taking place directly after the events of Crash Bandicoot: Warped. It is due to be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2, 2020.
Players take control of the characters Crash and Coco Bandicoot in order to traverse levels and reach the goal of the stage. Traditional elements of the series return, including various traps and obstacles to overcome, enemies that can be defeated in certain manners (such as jumping on them), and boxes that can be smashed open for items, some of which act as checkpoints that players restart at when their character dies. Unlike previous entries, players can switch between Crash and Coco at anytime during a level, with both having the same moveset as each other, and can make use of four different special masks to overcome more complex problems—an example is a mask that allows players to slow down time. At times, players can control Doctor Neo Cortex, the game's antagonist, in order to traverse levels, making use of gadgets to overcome traps and obstacles.
Activision and Toys for Bob also announced that players will be able to play as other "fan-favorite" characters. On August 6, 2020, Dingodile was announced as a playable character. On September 8, 2020, an alternate reality version of Tawna, Crash’s love interest from the first Crash Bandicoot game, was announced as a playable character.
