POSTED: 5 JULY
Activision after years of absolutely nothing (especially nothing really interesting like Twinsanity), decided to go for a safe route of reintroducing crash by remastering the OG trilogy from naughty dog that started it all.

Crash is not just a classic, but straight up a very good platforming game in its own right. The trilogy now as then, is surprisingly polished for a debut game, it oozes passion, and has a very distinct New Zealand/Oceania vibe, be it architecture, tribal themes and bandicoot himself (as well as other regional animals). The controls are also distinct enough, that it doesn't remind me of any other mascot platformers from the time. You have spin attack, different height jumps, 4 directional running through 3d environment, runner segments, ground slam, slide, slide jump, double jump, and spin gliding. Unlike other 3d platformers at a time, you do not control the camera in most segments (besides some vehicles in Crash 3 mostly), which removed most of the jank that would be an issue in pre analog stick era.

One issue that oen might notice, is somewhat high difficulty. Mind you, it's nothing on the levels of Celeste, Super Meat Boy or going for 100% in Crash IAT, but it is considerably high sometimes.
Crash 1 is tricky, and it has one surprisingly hard level, that was previously cut in OG.
Crash 2 is the hardest, at least for me, I would lose all my lives several times on different levels.
Crash 3 is the easiest, especially if you struggly with the infamous motorbike levels - as those net you wompa fruits for absolutely free.
Losing in Crash isn't extremely punishing, but it does enough that one might consider loading back a save. It lets you replay the level again, but gives you 4-5 lives (at least I'm pretty sure), instead of what you might have had before starting the level. If you had a lot of lives, it might sting a lot, but if you had only one or 2, it actually saves you from bad spot you were in before.
Also sometimes if you die (not lose) enough times, you will be getting free aku aku masks, allowing you to tank extra hit.
Everything else in the game is extremely faithful to OG trilogy, there is a slight difference in physics that makes some platforming harder than before, but nothing striking.
There is a LOT of content in this package, since it's whole 3 games in 1 purchase, it took me around 20 hours to complete all of them, and going for 100% extends it significantly.

Music is the old goodies, remastered and rearranged a little. With sounds being a gargantuan improvement over the PSX. It's all very cartoony and satisfying.

Visuals are amazing, compared to what it is based on. It might not be the most impressive on itself, but in the limits of the remaster framework, it's probably the absolute best anyone cand do to touch up an old PSX game. Lighting, animations, special effects, perfect resolution textures that still maintain the cartoony look, and it's every OG player's wet dream, of what a perfect looking remaster could be.

So, it's a great value for people enjoying platformers, massive amounts of content with great polish. Surprising considering poor VV and TFB had to work under Activ*sion.

Here's to hoping MS re-releases Crash 4 IAT sometime soon.
