The OG Crash 4 (at least according to the Japanese release for this game), this game is actually the first Crash game I actively remember playing so it really holds a nostalgic place in my heart despite not being the best Crash game.

Sometime after the last game (Crash 3), Uka Uka (who, alongside Cortex and N. Tropy, managed to escape their time prison somehow) has had enough of the villains plans failing time after time. Some of the villains remind Dr. Cortex of his secret weapon that still needs a power source to bring it to life. Uka Uka manages to bring the malevolent Elementals out of hibernation to bring the creation to life and they begin to wreck havoc on the Earth. Aku Aku, having seen for himself the return of the Elementals, enlist Crash and Coco's help in retrieving the Crystals around the globe to stop the Elementals rampage and bring an end to Dr. Cortex's plan, with the doctor threatening the bandicoots with his latest creation, a cyborg bandicoot by the name of Crunch.
