Cronos The New Dawn Could Be Switch 2's Best Horror Game
Cronos: The New Dawn might be Bloober Team's most ambitious project yet. Known for Layers of Fear and the Silent Hill 2 remake, the studio is now taking a huge leap into sci-fi survival horror.
Launching September 5, 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, macOS, and Nintendo Switch 2, Cronos blends body horror, time travel, and tactical combat in ways we haven't really seen before. You play as "The Traveler," working for a mysterious group called The Collective, harvesting souls across two timelines: a plague ridden 1980s Poland and a dystopian future wasteland.
Enemies don't just stay dead either, they merge into stronger, nastier forms unless you burn the bodies right away. That one mechanic alone completely changes the way you approach every encounter. Add in a companion system tied to the essences you extract, a sanity vs. power trade off, and a setting inspired by brutalist architecture and Eastern European history… and you've got something that could really stand out.
It's risky, it's different, and it might just be Bloober's biggest risk yet. In this video, I break down everything we know so far, share my thoughts on the gameplay systems, and explain why I think Cronos: The New Dawn could be special.
