Crypt of the Serpent King: Remastered (Xbox Series X) (Xclusive Indie Playthrough - Part 3) Fortress
Check out part 3 of my Indie playthrough series featuring the indie game Crypt of the Serpent King: Remastered! This game released on the Xbox One and Xbox Series family of consoles on July 7th, 2022. It was developed by Rendercode Games and published by Eastasiasoft Limited.
In this video, I traverse the Human Castle along with the Spider Fortress and defeat each of their respective bosses.
Crypt of the Serpent King is a medieval first-person hack 'n' slash dungeon crawler with roguelike elements. This game was most certainly inspired by some of the old school dungeon crawlers/RPGs before the move to the focus on open-worlds and stories. As one would expect from this type of game, there really is no story to talk about here as all you do is explore several large, randomly generated dungeons which are all their own levels along with their own theme. Each level revolves around one specific enemy type and is usually themed to match that enemy (such as the second dungeon/level where the enemies are goblins and the level itself is a toxic sewer). The bosses themselves are also themed well to match the overall theme of the level along with the enemies.
The game includes a total of 7 dungeons, each with a different theme and a different set of enemies. Each dungeon is also filled with various kinds of traps that fit the theme of that dungeon and a bunch of treasure chests that either include gold (which can be used to purchase better weapons) or food (which very slightly recovers your health). The gold you receive from the various chests scattered throughout the levels can be used to purchase several melee weapons along with two ranged weapons. I would highly recommend buying the 2nd weapon as soon as possible (the mace) and then saving up the gold to get the sword (which does the most damage and is also part of an achievement). Killing an enemy also nets you a bit of XP points which can be used before the beginning of each dungeon to increase your strength (the amount of damage you deal), speed (both attack speed along with movement speed) and stamina (which reduces the amount of damage you take). The goal of each dungeon is to find a set amount of keys which will allow you to enter the boss room and defeat the boss of that dungeon (which technically means that you can beat each dungeon without having to fully explore it or kill all of the enemies). Even though you can beat each level without fully exploring it, I would highly recommend fully exploring each level in order to maximize the amount of XP and gold you get as it makes the later levels a whole lot easier. Also, the game also includes 3 different difficulty types: casual, normal and hardcore, however, it does not affect any of the achievements (this time around) so you can play the game on casual and just rush through it without much of a problem.
Finally, with regards to the achievements in this game: the game includes a total of 11 achievements for a total of 1000 GS. All of these achievements are really easy to obtain as they are all related to playing through all of the levels along with leveling up your character and purchasing the sword. This is actually a nice update from the original version of the game as that one required you to complete the full game (all dungeons and bosses) on each difficulty. This means that this game can now be considered a fairly easy completion as you can complete the game in less than 2 hours.
