Just something that came to me this morning as I was trying to sleep.

text:

Cull the New

When deep within a spark grows new
and lingers till the sunlight hits,
A mind that's old may miss the cue
and fall within the deepest pit.

But not not a cry for help is heard,
As warning spreads above the maze.
That mind is set to kill the bird
then rest below its sleepless haze.

And what about the iris bloom?
The one that grows there in the dark?
It too shall find a careless tomb.
Its hues will perish - lifeless, stark.

So everything that's new must die?
Must cease? And for the sake of what?
We cull those things that never fly.
The outlines must be neatly cut.

There's still a voice, though soft and slow.
Its tones, though weak, are coming through.
Just echoes of its dying throes.
Tomorrow you shall have no clue.
