Hey everyone, just wanted to share my latest custom modification for the Nintendo Switch Lite...the "NES Classic Edition." Not sure why Nintendo never released any special anniversary-colored themed consoles for the Switch (OLED or Lite) like they previously did for the 3DS or GBA (i.e. SNES, SFC, NES, Famicom, etc). Anyhow, so I decided to take upon it myself. Just a preface though, this video is not necessarily a "how-to" guide but rather a quick overview of the parts you WILL need and WON'T need. It's a fairly easy process once you have everything. You can find tutorials on YouTube if you decide to do this same mod as well—it's really fun! The only challenge is that if you decide to source a Skull & Co. GripCase in the "Light Gray Edition" it might be difficult as they were released in low production numbers. But you won't need it to still get the "NES Classic Edition" look...it's just a nice icing on the beautiful cake.
A quick note about the parts needed, I opted to use the light gray shell from the Nintendo Switch Lite: "Zacian and Zamazenta Edition" console shell because it's almost a 99.9% color match to the original light gray color of the NES Classic Controller. While I did use the black/red button parts from ExtremeRate's "NES-themed shell kit"— I didn't use the shells provided with it as I felt it looked terrible in design and color usage. Also, the backshell from the ExtremeRate kit is more of a "warmer gray" than the "cool gray" that's on the NES Classic Controller. Here's a look at it...pretty ugly IMHO: https://extremerate.com/products/classic-nes-style-diy-replacement-shell-for-nintendo-switch-lite-nsl-handheld-controller-housing-w-screen-protector-custom-case-cover-for-nintendo-switch-lite-dlt137. I opted to source a replica of the OEM gray backshell as it pays homage to the NES' bottom side, which is a darker gray: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Nintendo-Entertainment-System/Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Nintendo-Entertainment-System-1124287.html.
Lastly, for the folks that are worried that I sacrificed a beautiful and minty "Zacian and Zamazenta Edition" to achieve this "NES Classic Edition" look...don't worry! This custom mod is completely reversible without requiring any resoldering/desoldering during the back shell/button/stick swap. It's 100% purely cosmetic mod.
Thanks for watching and enjoy! :)
