Churchill was one among hundreds of tireless, nameless automatons the British built to harness the power of steam and the new technological advances of the time. 'Steam devils', as they were called, were bestowed with all but the most rudimentary intellects, as they were primarily controlled by the Great Engine, which constantly transmitted their commands and directives.
And yet one day amidst a chorus of hammer blows, an old steam devil stood still; his tools lay fallen beside him, his monocular iris shut. There, humming at the edges of his electronic brain was music, beautiful music... his eye opened and he saw the world, and he saw himself in it. Churchill was born.
