Hey guys, here's a peak at the finished Dargon Quest. The game was released for backers only in April 2016. The download link is still available on the Kickstarter campaign page as a Backer only exclusive post.

During the campaign project I said I would produce mobile versions of Dargon Quest. They haven't come out yet and I will explain why: I started the KS campaign for the game when I had the game first built in RPG Maker VX Ace.

RPG Maker MV had been announced at the time, and I had pre-ordered it, and that version of the software advertised itself pre-launch as being able to export games for iOS and Android..... Unfortunately this claim by Enterbrain turned out to be incredibly disingenuous because the process to get a game to run on one of these mobile platforms is extremely complicated and very limited. The games never run correctly on iOS and Android even when you export them. Furthermore the file size of even a default brand new game project created in RPG Maker MV exceeds 100 MB which is the limit for the app stores, and RPG Maker MV has no native options for the usual workaround to this problem, which is to create a downloader file that can run from the app store and then will download the rest of the game files once installed on a mobile device. Enterbrain's own forums are filled with threads about these issues. I'm always watching to see if they finally address them, and even today years later they have not.

Years have passed, and Enterbrain continues to advertise RPG Maker MV as being able to build games for iOS and Android. You can see it on their page at http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/products/programs/rpg-maker-mv#features -- you can see it listed under Multiplatform Distribution section. This is entirely disingenuous and it's the reason why I haven't released mobile versions of DQ yet. The game was ported from RPG Maker VX Ace to MV.

Basically I would need to recreate the entire game in something like Unity in order to make a mobile device releasable game. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to do this, as my focus has been on Zenither (another software project far more ambitious than this and which has taken priority due to many factors in my life). I had hoped sometime Enterbrain would update RPG Maker MV to be on par with Unity's features for exporting games to mobile platforms, and this just has never happened.

I have invested a lot of time into the game mechanics, story and such, as well as money into the graphics for Dargon Quest and I think it'd be a waste to not port the game over to mobile devices but I would need to hire a designer to do this for me right now. As all my financial resources have been focused on Zenither for the past year this hasn't been possible however I expect sometime next year to be able to have the resources available to hire a Unity developer to port the game over so it can be released to all backers and the general public -- likely as a free to play game. I have no intentions to do another crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a Unity project. I made an error in the planning of DQ mobile porting and I just have to take the blame here until I can use my own resources to port the game to Unity which I should have built it in to start with.

To date the Windows version of the game has only been released to backers as a free download. It's still available as a free download for them. I have no intentions to put the game on Steam until the game is ported to Unity and mobile versions released for the backers.

It's my mistake for believing Enterbrain's game engine advertised as being able to make games that can be ported to iOS and Android would actually be able to do so in a way on par with Unity, so I'll take the heat for now until next year when I can deliver the full promise to backers. Then the game will be available to the public.

Now if any of the current backers wanted to share their copy of the free game though, I'm not going to stop them....

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
