Dark Piano Music - Nevermore | James Earl Jones Reading The Raven | Poetry & Music
An original called Nevermore.
This was composed around James Earl Jones reading of Edgar Allans Poe's classic The Raven. Its part of a new series I'm doing of poetry set to music. I already did one for a Muhammad Ali poem. Next will be Ozymandias and then Childe Roland To The Dark Tower Came.
This is a great poem and James Earl Jones only makes it greater. As its dark I wanted to compose a dark piano piece to fit it. I think poetry, art and music all really compliment eachother.
Heres my interpretation of the poem.
A man racked with guilt for killing Lenore and successful avoiding punishment is now confronted with his guilt and death in the form of The Raven. He goes through the five stages of grief when confronted by The Raven who he knows has come to claim his life. He denies the situation and goes through great efforts to distract The Raven from its purpose yet The Raven cannot be deterred simple saying "nevermore" at each attempt to ask questions, bargain and intimidate. Time for talk is over and this man must now face his end and his guilt. Eventually he accepts, I used a reverse cymbal at the end to create a cut off sound, signifying life being snatched from him by The Raven.
Hope you enjoy!! =)
