So my typical go-to strat for frigid outskirts is greathammer R2 pancake stunlocking the horses. That works great for SL1 runs and any other run that lets me pick my own weapons. Otherwise, my fall back and is just run and pray for any run that allows leveling since with 50 vigor it's actually not that unreasonable to just run through the whole thing, its sloppy as balls but it works well enough and its low effort. In a few runs where I can't level vigor and I cant pick my weapon I've had to improvise a bit. In SL1 BSS I had to use the BSS to combo the horses which wasn't a full stunlock and required actually sort of fighting the horses but it wasnt so bad since I could typically 2-3 cycle them with the stun combos. In base level sorcerer/dagger only I had to resort to using brightbugs to fight the horses and even then I just ended up getting lucky in the end because that method sucked. In this run I probably could've done the brightbug thing again, but I didn't wanna use brightbugs. Actually I did this run twice because the first time I did it, I did try doing the brightbug thing again and I just ran out of brightbugs and had to start the run over. But this time I learned the ultimate method for frigid outskirts, one that requires neither greathammers, vigor, brightbugs, nor anything special, I learned the very rare and unspoken horseless method. Now I'm pretty bad at it, I still end up screwing up the first horse a lot, but as you can see in the video there is a perfect route you can take to avoid horses entirely and I managed to pull it off in only a handful of attempts. This makes frigid outskirts doable even in the most restrictive of runs and it would've made Sorc/Dag so much easier and I wouldn't've had to use brightbugs in that run if I had this method for it. I don't know why more people don't talk about this strat, it's insanely good. it's finnicky and hard to learn and harder still to get consistent, but its awesome.
