History:
Did you know. Amos K Hutchinson Bypass, also known as toll 66, has quite a bit of history surrounding it. In the 1960s the department of transportation planned an expressway on a north south corridor. The road’s project was transferred from Penndot to the Pa Turnpike commission and the toll road conversion act was passed in 1985. By this time, several expressway projects in Westmoreland county were drawn up, including 981 bypass (which that project died). Championed by the late Amos K Hutchinson, The project finally broke ground in 1990. The project was completed in 1993 and named after the Pa State Representative Amos K Hutchinson. He was also the chairman of the state house Transportation committee as well, and he passed away in 1990.
