Sponsors Are Cutting YouTuber David Dobrik Loose In The Wake Of Sexual Assault Allegations
ponsors and advertisers have begun to distance themselves from popular YouTuber David Dobrik, after reports this week of sexual assault allegations against a former member of his so-called vlog Squad.
Back in 2018, David Dobrik posted a video entitled “SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE PLAYED WITH FIRE!!!”, in which young women were seen socialising with him and members of his entourage, while the men joked about sex.
Squad member Dom Zeglaitis recounts having sex with one of the women, who has since come forward to say that she was raped on the night, as she was heavily affected by alcohol and too intoxicated to give her consent.
The woman, then a student at a private liberal arts college in Los Angeles, said that Vlog Squad members supplied her and her friends with alcohol, as they were aged under 21 and therefore too young to buy it themselves.
She said that she felt “pressured” into sex with Zegalitis, telling Insider “it was very much an environment where it felt like saying ‘no’ was not OK”. A video of the night, which was viewed five million times, was later deleted at her request.Earlier this week, David Dobrik posted a video in which he indirectly addressed the woman’s claims, as well as various others against him, and distanced himself from Zegalitis. Sponsors have nonetheless begun to cut him loose.
Per the New York Times, a representative for Hello Fresh said: “We can confirm that we are no longer working with David Dobrik or any member of the Vlog Squad and do not have any plans to work with them again in the future.”
Dollar Shave Club said that it has ended its relationship with Dobrik and cancelled all planned activity, while EA Sports, which once had a close relationship with the YouTuber and gave him a car, said there are no plans to work together in the future.
Ticket-selling site SeatGeek, which has been involved in various car giveaways with Dobrik in the past, is also “reviewing” its partnership with him.
