What do you do when your biggest rival scores the highest grossing movie of the year with an outer space set superhero flick? You start developing your own superhero space movie, of course. With Guardians of the Galaxy becoming the highest grossing movie in the US so far this year, it looks like Warner Bros is scouring their properties to find their own space set adventure and according to Latino Review, that could be in the form of the Legion of Super-Heroes. First introduced in 1958, the Legion of Super-Heroes are a team of super powered, time travelling teenagers from the 30th century who travel back in time to recruit Superboy. The team has gone through several reboots over the years with the latest happening in 2011 as part of DC’s New 52. That storyline consisted of the team travelling to the 21st Century to try to save the future only to find themselves stuck in the past due to a pathogen that would destroy the 31st Century if they returned. There have been numerous team members through the years, including some notable ones. In addition to Superboy, the team has included Supergirl, Superman, the 30th Century Green Lantern and The Flash Barry Allen’s granddaughter, XS. The original team though consisted of three members; Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy. Though the studio may be looking at the Legionnaires as a possible counter to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, their powers seem more in line with the X-Men with Lightning Lad having the ability to generate and manipulate electricity as well as some control over the weather, ala Storm. Saturn Girl has the power of telepathy and mind control, similar to Jean Grey and Cosmic Boy could be a distant relative of Magneto with his power to generate magnetic fields. The threesome were previously brought to life on television in an episode of Smallville. As far as the movie, sources are saying the studio is in the early stages of development and are currently out to writers in hopes of one of them coming back with a concept they like. Of course, there has been no confirmation from the studio, so the possibility of a Legion of Super-Heroes movie should be considered just rumor at this point, but would you like to see the Legionnaires join DC’s Cinematic Universe and which members should they include?
