Everyone wonders how these two jets compare. Here, I get into it...probably more than most people care to. Starting out with a bit of development history for both the Hornet and Falcon, I end up testing the DCS F/A-18 against an AI F-16 in missile-armed dogfights, guns-only slugfests and beyond-visual-range jousting.

At a glance, the two have much in common. Large leading edge root extensions, wingtip rails, the same cannon, relaxed stability, fly by wire systems, and multi-role capacity...but the diffences are great enough to justify two designs for the needs of very different services. And hey, how do they match up when flown against one another?

I try my luck against DCS AI in a few scenarios after discussing the background of how the two jets came to be.
