In WVR combat, the Gripen-C is not too bad, but it isn't great either. It loses energy rapidly due to its large stub (canard) wings and it being single engined.

In BVR combat, with the Meteor missile, a Su-30SM Flanker-H with the long-reach R-77M missile can't even compete with it. The Meteor is one scary missile.

Buying the Gripen without the Meteor missile is kind of pointless. Likewise, buying the Rafale without the Meteor missile is ALMOST kind of pointless.
