Hello all! In this video I will discuss the messaging of mechanics in DC Universe Online, and whether it is time they had a significant update to telegraph them better for players.

I will also reference at certain points Final Fantasy XIV, as this game has better settings UI and better tells with mechanics in my view, and I will address a particular case study which I referenced previously in another video:

I believe DCUO has gotten better in more recent years at messaging mechanics, showing red areas for AOEs, to text on-screen or commentary from an ally NPC in voice over. However I still think there is room for further improvement, and it involves the combat tab in the chat box and certain abilities and cast times being visible on-screen. The recent Save The Universe content where we visited older content showed there was still some flaws in this, and I think overall the skull above the enemy's head should either be replaced or updated to something else, as skulls are commonplace in DCUO PVE content where the enemy could be doing one of various abilities.

I also think to aid with this that for console players DCUO should upgrade its video settings so that players can better manage the visuals that are going on on-screen, sometimes these (or the lack of flexibility in the settings) can become a hindrance to the messaging of mechanics in my opinion.
