A karting game that attempts to introduce more realistic weaponary to the genre. There are five circuits, each has a number of traps to interact with, from exploding falling barrels to barriers blocking opponents routes.

Weapons are based on the car you select at the menu, you can change this before each race, as with other karting games there are loot crates to pass over during a race that will give you additional weapons or traps such as barbwire or firewalls.

You have a boost bar that you are able to fill by drifting round corners, this drains down as you either boost or use your shield, which does add a tactical side to the game as you choose whether to boost your way to the front and leave yourself exposed to the opposition ganging up on you from behind with no protection.

Racing can appear hectic and unfair, you will find yourself at times dying repeatedly, but stick with it, learn how to maintain your level of boost bar and you will find yourself towards the front more often than not. The AI will give a bit of a challenge but not for long. Online multiplayer as with all racing games is where the longevity of this kart racer will be enjoyed the most and this plays perfectly, there were no waiting times for me and I found online games easily.

Graphically the tracks can appear sparse, but colourful, especially the pinball level, each having a large number of jumps on each track, allowing for plenty of opportunities to flip your vehicle and help to fill your boost bar. I was looking for the feel of the circuits to be something similar to the classic Motorstorm, but there were far fewer routes to race around each track, meaning that I had seen all of them very quickly.

Control wise the game uses all of the controllers buttons and allows for the option to steer using the analogue stick or by turning the controller. Using the analogue stick to steer caused me some discomfort after around 20-30 minutes playing as you need to pull the trigger to accelerate as well as the grip button to brake and it felt a little awkward, thankfully turning the controller worked perfectly for me and is my choice and the one I would recommend for racing.

The game really shines in its online form where the most replayability is found, the weapons and aiming works perfectly and it is gratifying to take out an opposition driver just as they round the final bend, expecting to take victory. Heres hoping for some additional track dlc in the future.
