Deep Fear - Sega Saturn (1998) Component/Real Hardware
Deep Fear is an Action-Horror title co-developed by System Sacom and Sega. Released in Japan and Europe in 1998, Deep Fear was never officially released in North America but the finished NA version leaked and is easily available to play. NA is preferable to the PAL release because PAL is 50hz, whereas the NA version is 60hz.
Deep Fear is a Resident Evil clone of sorts, but is also very much its own thing. Deep Fear has good combat and sub-item mechanics but the moment to moment gameplay is mediocre. There isn't much challenge, there aren't many puzzles, the OST is good but is rarely there. You are essentially tasked with an endless series of fetch quests and while I don't mind back-tracking in RE or SH, back-tracking in Deep Fear is really egregious and turns the game into a slog. All the same, Deep Fear is still worth playing if you have access to it. Voice acting aside, the production values are really solid and it's playable, there's nothing overly frustrating about the game outside of the fetch quests/back tracking.
Played via the Satiator on a Japanese Saturn with HD Retrovision component cables plugged into a Retro Scaler 2x. Captured via Elgato/OBS.
Enjoy!
