The Hobbit Trilogy is awesome, full-stop. Sure, it's no Lord of the Rings but nothing is. The Hobbit provides plenty of heart, action, adventure and more Middle-Earth moments that really highlight why Bilbo is such a great character. It adds more depth to his personality and achievements once The Lord of the Rings trilogy rolls around too. I absolutely think watching The Hobbit first makes The Lord of the Rings an even better experience. Regardless, Bilbo's journey with Gandolf and the Dwarves is one that can be watched and enjoyed on it's own merits too.
