Deltaforce 4 | DF: Doom Warrior + Ralsei & Susie + DUMP2: Scareware
Keeping it numbered out of tradition.
I must admit, I'm surprised it took me this long to return to this. I suppose I was really distracted with other games & mods and so on to revisit this ol' gem. The recent release and me playing through Deltarune's Chapter 2 is most likely the culprit for this sudden resurgence. Good game, still. Even recognized my save from SURVEY_PROGRAM years back. Nah, I didn't record myself playing through the lot. Some games are best experienced alone without me putting my thoughts out loud every moment of it, did the same thing for Omori. About the only time my patience was tested was in the teacup section. You know the one. The rest is just fine and excellent.
Anyways! The (maybe) long awaited return of the classic combo, Delta Warriors and Delta Force. And how fitting of a map this is concerning recent events, a back and forth cyberspace themed one from Sgt. Shivers' entry in DUMP2! You might've noticed some modifications done to Delta Force: Doom Warrior itself. Well, more than what's already been altered from aeons ago, anyways. I had to do it 'cause of how the weapon pickups are handled that causes any specials attached to it to essentially be replaced. A bit of a terrible thing since Scareware's progression relies on map scripts being triggered by attaching specials to vanilla pickups.
As a result, all of the weapon drops are now handled by RandomSpawners, keeping the triggers intact, allowing me to beat the map with the mod. To be honest, I think I might prefer this method over the old one. Picking up a sidearm box only to get a P11 for the three dozenth time starts to get on my nerves, especially when I can't recover the gun I just threw and have to deal with the godawful starting pistol, again.
Of course, one probably wonders what happens to the weapon swapping system. It's kind of no longer there. All weapons are modified to be dropable using GZD's weapon drop key. You'll note I'm using Use-to-Pickup here in conjunction with an honor system to drop any existing weapon I have in the slot to adhere to the old system as much as possible. In a way, it's still self regulating 'cause if I didn't drop my weapons, I'd have to bother swapping through every single weapon in the slots to get to the one I want. Not exactly perfect, but it's usable enough.
