The developers of Mortal Shell, Cold Symmetry, describe this very-ambitious-for-a-small-indie-team game as a "ruthless and deep action-RPG that tests your sanity and resilience", with your survival demanding "super awareness, precision and instincts". They say it is "made for battle-hardened soulslike fans" with "vindictive design, assembled with spite".

That sounds great and all, but in reality, I think it's just a fancy disclaimer for "we haven't balanced the game properly yet" because right now the controls feel very unresponsive and the defensive moves in-game are incredibly hit-and-miss. Frustratingly so.
That being said, the game looks great, attack animations feel weighty and realistic despite some weird action queueing issues, and it's all shaping up well for a beta product.
