I had trouble with this fight at first, but the AI for this fight breaks pretty easily (maybe moreso if you have the Thief Ring equipped). I left in the failed initial run, but as you can see from the second run, the Maneaters just sort of lose interest.
Best strategy in this fight is to stay up by the brazier and circle around to shield yourself from attacks, and get an opening.
