A few weeks ago an official crossover EP between Katamari and DENONBU was released for Katamari’s 20th anniversary. I was a bit worried at first, but luckily it’s pretty good! I do wish it was longer, and that they didn’t only remix songs from the first game, but what we got was still very enjoyable. Here’s my personal ranking of all 5 tracks!

00:00 5. Katamari on the Rocks - hirihiri Remix (A-)
This is the only song of the bunch that I feel was somewhat butchered. It’s good for the most part but feels weirdly off-beat at times. While I obviously enjoyed it, it’s weaker than the original, the DOKAKA arrangement, the 5cm Prince Remix, and the Masahiko Osaka rearrange. Would rank it in the bottom 10 in my definitive ranking.

03:57 4. LONELY ROLLING STAR - picco Remix (A)
LONELY ROLLING STAR has been remixed and covered to death, and this particular one doesn’t really stand out much. This may be my least favorite song in the LRS saga, although that’s hardly an insult.

09:37 3. A Crimson Rose and a Gin Tonic - HARETOKIDOKI Remix (A)
It may be on the short side, but I personally really like it. The bits with the original instrumental are nice, the singing is good, and it has a nice flow. It’s weaker than the original, but still a worthy remix.

12:38 2. Katamari of LOVE - Shinpei Natsuno Remix (A)
Although not the same without Shigeru Matsuzaki singing, it’s still a great remix. It is a bit weird that this was the first song in the ep and not the last, but I digress. It’s about on par with the SEXY-SYNTHESIZER remix.

16:50 1. The Moon and the Prince - Tatsunoshin Remix (A+)
This is the remix that comes closest to matching the quality of the original. I do wish the bit where it ramps up at the end was longer, but otherwise I love it from beginning to end. It would probably be in the 50s in my definitive ranking, and maybe even squeeze into the top half.
