Destiny 2 Season 13 Theory: The Cabal Will BEG For Our Help (Crow, Caital, Spider, and Osiris Lore)
The entire Season 12 (Season of the Hunt) storyline has been… difficult to follow. From hidden lore in the tower to convoluted lore moments that are interwoven during the beyond light campaign it can be hard to connect the dots. Here are the most important things you need to know about the season.
First, Osiris left you the seasonal shard and like 5 minutes of voice messages on the space answering machine. He screwed off to find Calus’ daughter who’s trying to round up the remaining Cabal forces.
Caiatl Rundown
- Caiatl is the daughter of Callus. - The big guy you killed a billion times before everything was shoved into the content vault.
- Ghaul was made Primus by Callus, but a lot of the Cabal didn’t like him. Caiatl was in league with Ghaul and part of a plot to overthrow her father… which was successful… before… well… we (and the traveler) killed him.
- Once he died and their almighty plot failed the Cabal either went with Callus’ death squad, or started going with Caiatl. With Callus gone, it would seem she’s the only Cabal force left in the galaxy.
- Today Caiatl is rounding up the remaining Red Legion soldiers. She realizes her nation is full of failure. She wants a better future “where foreign ships fall under their fire and rival nations fall to their knees.” RIP.
- So Caiatl has a beacon out there just blasting her name to the galaxy. Prompting people to capture Calus, but he’s gone. So apparently she didn’t cover it up very well because now we get Osiris…
Osiris Rundown
- Osiris was trying to find the last of the Cabal aka Caiatl’s crew, but after discovering a message from Caiatl (He alludes to this during the transmissions in the tower)
- After this discovery, he heads to the Reef and it’s covered in Cryptoliths that are brainwashing Cabal. Eventually, they leave and head to Sokirs Cut on the Tangled Shore and the message simply says “Caiatl sends an emissary to receive their tribute.”
- So Osiris finds them all huddled around a rock aka a Cryptolith still being brainwashed by the Hive.
- The messages are those of War. From Xivu Arath, sister to Oryx. The Cabal has been decimated by the Cryptoliths. “She plays snippets of Cabal distress transmissions and orders from Caiatl's scouts to lock down encampments; she displays images of slaughter, graves, and empty Cabal fortifications. "If it's hitting them this hard, your Associates must be, what's the phrase? Dropping like flies."”
-Osiris, at Spider’s suggestion, heads to the Dreadnaught which is active. Savathûn (The Witch Queen) has been chased away and Xivu Arath remains with the full support of the Hive.
- So Osiris and Sagira sneak up on all of Croata’s Hive kids and their kids and… well he slaughters all of them. To quote “He paints the scene apocalyptic. Fifteen noble-brood are reduced to cinders before a defense is mounted.”
- Eventually, it seems as though Xivu Arath overpowers him, and would have killed him had Sagira not stepped in and saved his life. She detonates a light bomb, saving him and wiping any remaining entities from the room.
- Meanwhile, it would seem Mara Sov is finally returning but has been battling “The Black Fleet” in space. She expects Savathûn to be at the Dreaming City when she returns.
Crow Rundown
So the Crow was revived, and he’s been killed a few times when he encounters guardians. Eventually, this finds him trapped in space.
This is where Spider comes in. Crow was adrift in space and Spider’s minions “saved him.” He basically was trapped in space dying and being reborn repeatedly by his ghost.
Eventually, he runs into a Warlock Druis who was fighting some Cabal and recognizes him. He also ran into some Scorn who called him Father.
And lastly, someone named Chalco has been chasing the Crow. This really pisses off the Spider.
So the Spider puts a bomb in Crows Ghost and that’s about the time where the game picks up the story. The Crow saves Osiris as he continues to chase Xivou Arath on the moon.
-Spoiler warning, but we know that the Crow is going to be freed by the guardian eventually and likely return to the tower. However what we don’t know is why Zaval is hanging out with the Cabal, and that’s where my theory comes in.
So after all of that explanation, I think that Caital is on his last leg. She’s gotten her butt kicked so many times that she’ll need an ally if the cabal wants to survive. Period. That’s where the scene comes in and that’s likely where we are headed next season. And I think we’re going to help them.
