DH Train Engineers v2 (Space Engineers map) - Steam trains in space!
OUTDATED! Get the new map from:

I've also released a blueprint collection of track components for people to build their own railways with:

A second virtual train set map with different train mechanics - And who said Space Engineers was limited to building space ships? You've gotta love this game for the sheer amount of stuff you can make in it. :)
Map designed and built over about a month (on and off - Mostly off, Space Engineers turns CPUs into BBQs and it definately isn't a summer game...) - Made for fun 'cause it's a bit useless for survival mode. However everything works - Freight wagons can be loaded with cargo, and the maintenance depot builds vehicles. Perhaps I can adapt this concept for use with planets later.
Trains go much, much faster than 8 m/s this time around - There are 5 locomotives in the map (An original "steam" engine, a smaller "steam" engine based on an old Matchbox toy, and 3 other vehicles based on real world trains - The Intercity 125, British Rail Class 56, BR Shunter) and 3 wagon types (passenger coach, ore wagon, freight boxcar) - The slowest "steam" train goes 25 m/s while pulling wagons, while the fastest "diesel" locomotive can go as fast as 70 m/s (without derailing).
The only mods I used were a skybox and some measuring tools - Everything else is unmodded vanilla. Pouring a ton of effort into something only for it to break 'cause a mod vanished off of the workshop seems like a bad idea...
Also the map may not work properly for users of DX11 - The map pushes Space Engineers onto its knees and makes it beg for mercy, so I set the world view distance down to below minimum to keep the frame rate smoother, but that only works if you use DX9. In DX11, world view distance doesn't seem to work... And the map lags. A lot. Hm. Maybe it'll be fixed later though.
