After completing the Prologue in Diablo 4, you'll be able to start up Act 1: A Cold and Iron Faith. In this part of the walkthrough, we'll guide you through the eighth mission in this Act, called The Cost of Knowledge. This main story quest follows Storming the Gates, as you search the Mourning Shore for Vhenard.
Once through, you can head down this first set of stairs and find another stone with Vhenard’s Records scribbled on it, and it doesn’t sound good. Afterward, head down the next set of stairs.
Before entering this next area, stop at the Healing Well to replenish, then head up the stairs again to find the Priest mentioned in Vhenard’s Records earlier and Vhenard in the middle of the floor.
Speak with Neyrelle here, and she’ll go talk with her mother. Unfortunately, the conversation will not go well, leading to a boss fight with Vhenard. Below, you can find a breakdown of her boss fight and how to beat her.
How to Beat Vhenard
Vhenard is a tricky boss fight, as she requires a lot of moving around and patience. In order to take her down, you need to focus on the demonic servants (called Hell Spawn) that she summons and take them out, all while she's firing projectiles at you from behind a barrier.
Much like X’Fal, The Scarred Baron, Vhenard also has three markers on her health bar. By the first marker, she'll summon two Hell Spawn to protect her. For those with ranged weapons, it's fairly easy to move around the area and aim at them from afar, but if you have a melee build, you'll have to time your dodges around when they release their own projectiles. Go in, smack a couple of times, then roll around their sides, all while avoiding Vhenard's fiery lines as well.
Mark two is when things will really kick up a notch. Not only will she summon three Hell Spawn, but also Hellstormers to charge at you. For starters, as she's summoning (indicated by the glowing red pentagrams on the floor), run to the lower corner to get a head start on the Hell Spawn that pops up here. Then, as the Hellstormers run to you, take them out quickly. Once they're down, return to the Hell Spawn you started with.
Take them down one by one rather than all at once. However, taking too long will cause Vhenard to summon more Hellstormers. So when you see the floor glowing red with more pentagrams you'll know they're coming!
Once they're down, Vhenard will have one last, chaotic surprise up her sleeve. This is easily the most difficult phase, and will require a lot of patience. Five Hell Spawn will be summoned now, along with a Pit Lord, and Hellstormers. That's not all, though, as she'll summon even more demons once you get going.
Much like before, start from the bottom corner to get a head start with taking down the Hell Spawn that appears here. They're your primary targets, so you're going to want to dodge around the room until you can get them alone to hit them. Slowly clearing out the other demons helps immensely, too.
After defeating her, she'll drop a variety of different rewards to pick up. This will also complete the quest.
