495The scene where Driscoll and the crew fall into the pit with giant bugs is actually a reference to a deleted scene in the original King Kong film. There was originally a scene where they were devoured by giant spiders, but they cut it after seeing the preview audiences run out of the theater. The original scene was never recovered, but Jackson recreated what it would’ve looked like by using the same stop-motion techniques that were used in the 30’s.
