John McClane ist beim CCPD und seine Tochter Lucy ist mittlerweile selber Polizistin. Durch einen Zwischenfall in einem Museum wird Lucy gefangen genommen und ein wertvolles Gemälde verschwindet einfach. John nimmt die ganze Sache in seine eigene Hand und will Lucy befreien. Dabei stößt er auf Piet Gruber, dem Sohn von Jack (Hans) Gruber. Steckt er etwa hinter diesem Cue und wenn ja, was will er damit bezwecken?
