DiRT on Xbox 360 — Codemasters’ 2006 Masterpiece Still Looks Incredible
Captured on original Xbox 360 E hardware, this video showcases gameplay from the demo version of Colin McRae: DiRT (2006)—Codemasters’ groundbreaking rally reboot that helped redefine off-road racing for a new generation.
🎮 Released in 2006, DiRT was the first in the series to carry both the Colin McRae name and the new “DiRT” branding. It introduced a new physics engine, stunning terrain deformation, and a variety of off-road disciplines—from rallycross to hill climbs.
🏁 Even 19 years later, the visuals are shockingly good. The lighting, damage modeling, and environmental detail still rival modern racers. Codemasters pushed the Xbox 360 to its limits, and it shows.
📼 This footage is part of my Xbox 360 celebration project, preserving the console’s most iconic and overlooked gems. 💬 Whether you played this demo back in the day or are seeing it for the first time, it’s a reminder of how far ahead Codemasters was in 2006.
Drop a 🚗 in the comments if you remember thinking “This is next-gen” when you first saw DiRT in motion.
