DiRT Rally 2.0 | the moment of switching from gamepad to ffb wheel, test run
#thrustmastert150 #simracing #rallysimfans
I always loved racing games. Back in 1999 or so I even had some decent Saitek wheel (non-FFB of course) that I lent to a friend to play Grand Prix 3. After that, because of practical reasons, I raced with gamepads only. They took less space.
Around early 2020, due to a health issue, my driving license became suspended so I thought this is the right moment to get a wheel again, this time an entry-level FFB. During the first couple of tests it was stunning to realise how precise it was compared to the gamepad. Also it was funny to see that the memory of handling the car still migrated from gamepad to wheel somehow. After half a year my condition improved and I got my license back. I concluded that spending months with the simulator improved my driving skills.
I'd recommend to have a FFB wheel and spend some time in sims to any car driver. It will improve the sense of danger and handling skills on the limit drastically. So to say, DiRT Rally 2.0 sim saved my life a couple of times during the past few years on the road, in the reality.
As for some strange fact: during shooting this video I concluded that rallying with steering wheel was just way too difficult for me. Everything happened so quickly. It was very exhausting to follow. I'm nearly 50 so I just let it go. For almost a year I iced DiRT Rally games, labelled "too hard". Instead I did track racing, Asetto Corsa, ACC, RaceRoom and the great majority of present track racing sims, trying to find the suitable one for me.
Around the end of that year or so I met a guy, a sport psychologist who attended one of my live shows and we started to talk about mindsets. He told me very interesting things about the internal data processing of the brain and why race drivers can do what they do and other people can't who otherwise have the very same CPU. Following his ideas I made a second try - and BANG! - DiRT Rally 2.0 became my perfect race sim.
Well... Never say never.
