Diving Into Oblivion Remastered & Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Two Hot New GamePass RPGs)
1It's me starting two hot new RPG releases that also happen to be on GamePass! First off there's the remake of the 360 classic that made Elder Scrolls a household name, Oblivion Remastered. Second, there's the new kid on the block, a 30 hour French JRPG which is sort of like Hell's Paradise only French, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Oblivion is still really very cool. The cities, the hell world, the shivering isles, it's all very cool albeit slightly jank as well. I found a good amount of jank during my first few hours with the game mostly just going down the main quest normal style but hey, it wouldn't be Elder Scrolls if it wasn't jank, would it? Also there's over encumbrance. I could do without that, honestly. Seems like a remake that's true to form, good and bad wise.
Expedition 33 meanwhile is absolutely delightful. I had no idea what to expect going in and as a result it was able to hit me with several very effective sucker punches as the plot got going and it started revealing itself to me. Beyond a fantastic premise, setting, conceit there's also an excellent turn based action system which I don't fully understand yet but I'm hoping to get there because it's a hell of a game so far in so many ways. Definitely going to continue this off stream.
Apologies for some of the hubbub up top - I hit a button in Oblivion expecting it to tell me what was in the Premium Bundle and instead it put four digits of credit card on screen. I wish Microsoft was better at not showing sensitive information on screen without warning. Bad enough that on the home screen it switches between GamerTag and full legal name every few seconds.
