This short video demonstrates the Allegro A1302 hall effect sensor in its role as a voltage divider. This can be a drop in replacement for any mechanical potentiometer that is configured for use as a voltage divider (a three wire pot that uses all three wires).

This method allows perfect, noise free operation for your simulator controls. The device works across a 180 degree arc. The prototype shown uses a single 22mm ball bearing, an A1302 hall effect device and a pair of 1/4" x 1/4" Neodymium magnets (Available from Magcraft). The body of a hexagonal-body Bic pen (the common ball point type) is pressed into the ball bearing center and acts as the input shaft for the DIY hall sensor.,
