In Skyrim I'm sure you met Daedric Princes and visited shrines of the Aedra! In Elder Scrolls games the lore regarding these beings is not always made obvious unless you go diving deep to discover primordial TES secrets! Turns out they were all original spirits before the creation of the mortal world, which was the idea of a spirit named Lorkhan. Some spirits followed along with his plans, making the mortal world but losing their power in the process, while others kept their power for themselves! Aedra, meaning 'our ancestors' in the Aldmeri language, are those who gave their power. 'Daedra', translates to "Not Our Ancestors", making the separation between the two in the elven creation myth super clear!
