Donkey Kong and his sidekicks Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong are celebrating his birthday, when suddenly a snowflake blows in and extinguishes the birthday candle. It is then that the four see a group of anthropomorphic animal Vikings, known as the Snomads, sailing towards Donkey Kong Island. The leader unleashes a strong icy wind that freezes the island over and blows the Kongs to a far-off island. Not hesitating for a moment, DK travels across six islands, (including his frozen home) fighting a variety of enemies to return and reclaim his home.
