[Doom 2] Mystery 1 - Map 04 (Dark Base) UV-Max in 27:43 by Bloodite Krypto

Map 04: Dark Base
Time: 27:43
Comment: This is the only original level in the set with a new layout, as Chillax had no tech bases. I have a love hate relationship with this map when it comes to speedrunning it, on the one hand it has unique tropes such as having to rush past enemies and instigate infighting, intense cyber battles in awkward positions and a devious pain elemental swarm, but it's such a bastard when playing aggressively as their are too many lethal spots where you can fuck it up with little to no recovery.
Getting the spiders to infight can be a bitch as the 2nd Mastermind in the hanger is prone to getting stuck immediately and not hitting any of the Arachnotrons, so good luck trying to get past them consistently.
It is very important to make sure the hanger door is closed before firing or you'll wake up the Caco and Pain Elemental swarm prematurely, it is best to leave them till you return after clearing the hanger and acquiring the Plasma. Then you can slaughter them without fear of them swarming into the hanger and overruning your position, on previous runs I'd leave this swarm till the end and rush past them, but if another monster aggros the PE's, they'll be Lost Souls everywhere when you return near the end of the map. At that point the run is over as you'll waste too much ammo which you need for the finale.
Make sure you wake up the Revenant horde and Cybers as you'll want them to infight, if your lucky most of the Revs and Cybs will be dead by the time you open the bars, on this run the Cybers got gangraped and their were still a huge amount of Revs left which is absolutely baffling.
Ah the diabolical walkway with the Cyber and Revenant turrets in the distance, take good care with timing when attacking the Baron and Hellknight cluster, then double back when their are too many rockets coming your way and watch out for the Spider bitch on the left who can open fire without warning and shred you, but it's very rare. Then get ready for a game of lucky dice when you trigger the 2nd Cyber to teleport in behind you, if he's nice, he'll get stunned easily and not move around much, if he keeps advancing towards you, then your in a tricky situation because the turret Cyber in the distance can fire and you can't pay attention to his distance rockets when your dealing with a 2nd Cyber right in your face. That Baron by the Mega secret is a real asshole, usually he'll come down on the lift, but recently he likes to get stuck up there and waste precious time.
The cyber you have to shoot through a narrow doorway isn't much of an issue, you can actually shoot him through the window, but it's opaque so you won't be able to see him or his rockets, so unless you have a death wish stick to the doorway! I hate the descent afterwards as you have to deal with two Archviles with no cover, again it's a lucky roll of the dice whether these cunts will get stunned easily or incinerate your ass, fortunately their is both a Soulsphere and Mega Armor, along with a Mega secret in the previous room.
You better have ninja reflexes when dealing with the Cyber guarding the red key on that awkward stairway, have your back against the wall and dart left immediately when he fires, if your timing is precise you can actually do this without taking any damage. The yellow key area is easy, make sure to use the Invul and not do anything retarded like get stuck on monsters, then use the 2nd to clear the walkway in the slime area.
Then just make sure not to panic when demolishing the final two cyber bros, I can usually kill them before they leave their alcove, here I fucked up the timing and had to double back into the hanger, the Zombieman hilariously blocked my way and I nearly got plastered trying to swerve back and forth, good thing I'm a beast in intense situations!
Then in the control room, you've got a Mega and a ton of cells, I don't recommend rushing as you've got Chaingunners who can shred you and Archviles which can blow you to shit without warning, so take it easy and don't lose a good run here.
What a bitch of a map to speedrun, but it's fun as hell!
About the wad: Mystery consists of 6 slaughter maps, entirely made by me. These maps are inspired my Chillax and other slaughter maps. Those of you played Chillax will surely enjoy it as Mystery maps are absolutely playable in single player.
I would like to thank the persons who helped me complete the maps and who helped me on solving various issues before and after releasing the maps. Thanks very much to the speedrunners and other players for maxing and playing my maps.
