DOOM 2016 is the precursor of Doom Eternal. DOOM 2016 has a darker, more serious feel to it. You don't have meathook or dash in this game, so movement is less volatile and easier to keep track off. The fights are shorter and there are less enemies overall, but even the small ones can deal up to 100 damage. There is no dynamic damage scaling, so if you get hit by a attack you will take the full damage, unlike DE where damage taken is determined by your current HP.

In my opinion, this game isn't even that much easier than Eternal, its just less complicated. Its actually easier to die to something random, like walking backwards into a zombie and him hitting you for 100 damage or a charged Imp fireball.

I recommend playing this game before Doom Eternal, as it is less complicated and easier to follow along, while still providing the challenge and the idea of what the gameplay is all about.
