Pues me entró curiosidad por probar la emulación de la fracasada consola "3DO Interactive Multiplayer", y se me ocurrió probar el Doom de 3DO. Recordaba que se menciona siempre como uno de los peores, si no el peor port de Doom para consola. Bueno, nada más empezar a jugar te das cuenta de por qué: ventana de juego reducida, muy baja resolución, control deficiente y un framerate que hace el juego casi injugable. En las estadísticas podéis ver a los fps a los que llega a ir, la mayor parte del tiempo por debajo de los 20 fps.

Como el emulador permite aumentar la velocidad de la CPU de la 3DO hasta x4, es lo que hago al poco de empezar el 2º nivel. La diferencia es apreciable, se juega mucho mejor (control aparte), si bien la emulación se vuelve mucho más exigente y al menos en mi equipo a veces baja la velocidad de la emulación. Aun así, mucho más jugable que por defecto.

Tampoco es que vaya a jugar a esta versión de Doom más después de hacer este vídeo. Lo único bueno que tiene esta versión de 3DO es la banda sonora, con versiones más rockeras de las músicas originales. Pero si quiero jugar a Doom con esa banda sonora, como no podía ser de otra forma los fans se han encargado de que podamos jugar con esta BSO en GZDoom. En cuanto al emulador, uso el multi-emulador Phoenix, el cual emula las siguientes consolas: 3DO (con una compatibilidad del 100%), Atari Jaguar, ColecoVision, Sega Master System y Game Gear.

I was curious to try the emulation of the failed video console "3DO Interactive Multiplayer", and I thought to try 3DO's Doom. I remembered that it's always mentioned as one of the worst, if not the worst port of Doom for console. Well, as soon as you start playing you realize why: small game window, very low resolution, poor control and a framerate that makes the game almost unplayable. In the statistics you can see the fps at which it goes, most of the time below 20.

As the emulator allows to increase the CPU speed of the 3DO up to x4, is what I do shortly after starting the 2nd level. The difference is noticeable, it plays much better (control aside), although the emulation becomes much more demanding and at least on my computer sometimes the speed of the emulation sometimes drops. Still, much more playable than by default.

Not that I'm going to play this version of Doom anymore after this video. The only good thing about this 3DO version is the soundtrack, with rockier versions of the original music. But if I want to play Doom with this soundtrack, fans have made sure that we can play with this OST in GZDoom. As for the emulator, I use the multi-emulator Phoenix, which emulates the following consoles: 3DO (with 100% compatibility), Atari Jaguar, ColecoVision, Sega Master System and Game Gear.
