Doom 64 CE (Beta 64) #23 Nowhere to Hide / #24 The Nest
13Welcome to an almost entirely blind series of the Beta 64 WAD for DOOM 64 CE. Created by 'Antnee', Beta 64 provides 31 levels for the community to enjoy. Played on 'watch me die!' difficulty and accessed with (almost) 100% secrets/hidden levels. Note: this WAD is intended to be played without freelook though I have elected to play with mouselook enabled.
Episode 17: maps #23 Nowhere to Hide and #24 The Nest are featured in this video. The first level, Nowhere to Hide, features a greater number of unfound secrets than normal. I still manage to access well over half of them but a few remain (some not needed like medkits), so I may go back in my own time and check to see what I missed. Nowhere to Hide is a solid level and as the name suggests, getting a moment of peace can be a challenge at times. Overall, it's not that difficult though the end sequence is considerably more demanding. The following map, Nest, is the end battle that is included at the climax in the original game, which I never completed on the PC, at least. Some levels do exist after this though I'm not quite sure about the sequence so I'll have to observe them. Needless to say, Nest - is a right pain in the rear and if I'm honest, I'm surprised I managed to beat it. I decided to include all of the footage for those wanting to see it, but as always, timestamps are available if you wish to find the final, successful run.
