Doom [Doom the Way id Did]: Knee-Deep in the Dead (Episode 1) - UV Episode in 13:30
Wad: Doom the Way id Did (DTWiD.wad)
Skill: Ultra-Violence
Time: 13:30
Map: Episode 1 (E1M1 - E1M8)
Name: Knee-Deep in the Dead
Category: UV Episode
Edited Note: According to the DSDA, since this isn't a Compet-N entry and I have ways of checking the time on the final level (E1M8) that the time is indeed added on to the end. So I won't change it in the "original text file" description below, but it's changed elsewhere on this description. Everything below the line under this paragraph is the same as it was. Sorry about that.
--------------
Finally got this! Now that all the holes in the Doom the Way id Did demopack have been filled, all we have left to do is put it together. Perfect time for me to finally get a successful time on this, too! It's also the first Episode video I've posted to my channel, so it's a double treat! ;) Enjoy a quick look at the entire first Episode of Doom the Way id Did!

--------------------------------------
Description:
E1M1: Detour to the blue armor for later. I seem to be a magnet for bullets throughout the run so I figured might want to ease the pain for now, regardless of how easy the first 3 maps are.
E1M2: Standard route and time.
E1M3: Quicker than my usual exits (usually 1:08 - 1:10) so I can't complain too much here. The bridge to the exit came up just perfectly instead of having monsters snagged on the edge.
E1M4: Slower time than usual, everything was trying to go haywire at the last bit and it was tough to try to progress without sacrificing too much health. I usually finish sub 1:08 here.
E1M5: Now we're getting to the slower times. Beginning is slow because I needed to take my time to get started since I had lower health (which is usually around this much anyway). Plus I didn't want to get snagged when coming out of the Soulsphere secret. Saved that green armor at the start for later when I knew I'd need it.
E1M6: Here we go, where the whole thing slows to a snail's pace in terms of relative speed. I haven't seen any way at all to really plow through this one in any sort of quick time without dying. If a run were to fail, it was usually this map. I tried to make sure every single Shotgunner that I saw was dead so that they didn't tear through my health and lack of armor later on. Nowhere really safe in this map, you just have to know it well enough to survive. Somehow I missed the red key pickup and missed the door to go down to the yellow key. Can't complain, this was my fastest exit. Low health the entire time kept me on edge.
E1M7: Tons of enemies but a lot of them can be dodged or bulldozed through using the Chaingun in certain parts, but to have that ammo you have to stick with the Shotgun for a LARGE portion of this speedrun. Enemies like to clump up in the main hallway and in front of the main elevator, which definitely makes for an interesting time trying to push the speed. Those last 4 Shotgunners are the most terrifying sight when you have almost no health remaining.
E1M8: Apparently I forgot about where anything in this map was entirely, because I forgot about (and forgot where) the rocket launcher being in this map. So stupid me just completely herpaderps and runs into the main room with no launcher and only a shotgun and chaingun to my name. Eh, at least the time on this map doesn't count but it makes me feel like a total idiot =P
So glad to be done with this, it was a tough run to get and I wanted to get something faster than didierbertrand's 12:27 (which seems to be incompatible with v1.1 anyway). This is the result. I had something 12:1x but it was awful and it was for the old version, not 1.1. Anyway, getting past E1M6 and E1M7 is the hardest thing about this whole run, by far. I'm sure there are a LOT of places it could be sped up but I'm not sure where to start trying to figure that out.
On a final note, happy Pi Day everyone!
