Doom: Going Down (Featured Mod) - Map 15: Gladiator (UV-Max, Secret Exit)
4Going Down is a 32-level megawad for Doom II released by Cyriak Harris (mouldy) in November 2014, featuring its own original soundtrack by the same author and a custom DeHackEd boss monster (replacing the Wolfenstein SS). It requires a Boom-compatible source port to play. It is known for its small, fairly hard maps with high body counts, and gameplay the author has described as "chaotic-evil".
The WAD was named as a winner of the 21st Annual Cacowards. In 2023, Going Down was also included in Doomworld's Doot Eternal music feature for Doom's 30th anniversary.
In November 2024, on the 10th anniversary of Going Down's release, Harris released a special edition of it called Going Down: Turbo. Both editions became featured mods for Doom + Doom II.
Something went wrong at a UAC office building, and Doomguy is sent to investigate, starting from the top of the skyscraper and getting to the bottom of the story. While doing so, he is often interrupted by nagging phone calls from his mother, which advance the plot humorously: accessing the secret levels, for example, is explained in-story as going back to the roof to get a better reception.
Map 15 is one of my favorite maps in Going Down, and is also home to the secret exit in the wad. In this map you're in a gladiator arena fighting off waves of monsters that get released with each switch you hit to lower one of the weapons, all while a demon audience and the Cyberdemon king watch and cheer. After hitting all four weapon switches, the final switch will lower, which will lower the key and also lower the Cyberdemon king into the arena and make the audience join in on the fight as well! Behind the key on the Cyberdemon's throne is a switch that will open the gate back to the elevator which is now guarded by a horde of imps!
To get to the secret exit, after grabbing the red key and hitting the switch on the Cyberdemon's throne to open the gate to the arena, instead of going in the elevator, go to the bathroom to the side of it. Flush yourself down the toilet and climb out of the sewer into the bleachers of the colosseum. Follow the bleachers around and follow the path to drop down in front of a staircase next to the elevator.
