Doom II - Intergalactic Xenology Trilogy - MAP11: Binary Escapee
Welcome back for some more Doomy goodness, folks. Today we're going to check out a favorite of mine called Intergalactic Xenology Trilogy, a 16-level Boom-compatible collection of maps made by Dreadopp and Lord_Z. Intergalactic Xenology Trilogy (which I'll occasionally call IXT from now on for brevity) is actually a compilation of three episodic collaborations between the aforementioned creators that uses the texture pack of skillsaw's magisterial megawad Ancient Aliens. When they were released on their own, the first two episodes of IXT were runners-up at the 2020 and 2021 Cacowards respectively, so we know from the start that we're in for a real treat. Let's see what those pesky aliens are up to now!

Additional notes
---------------------------
We've arrived at the last episode of IXT, titled 'Future Chains'. In a strange way, 'Binary Escapee' sort of picks up where 'Symbiotic Infestation' left off, with a shrunken Doomguy forced to do some more running and gunning, only this time in a very different environment: the realm of technology. I find it to be an extremely unique and wholesome level, its abundant DoomCute a tribute to simpler times. Permeating the map is the indelible feeling of nostalgia and comfort that defined the technological advances of the 1990s and early 2000s and the new possibilities it opened up for young people, especially gamers. Like in 'Symbiotic Infestation', Lord_Z doesn't spare any details, constructing a floppy disk, transistors, a keyboard, a mouse, a cup, a Rubik's cube, a VHS tape, plugs, RAM sticks, an old-school mobile phone, and many other objects and pieces of gadgets that instantly put you in a certain mood associated with a certain period in time. My thoughts on the combat will be brief because it's once more secondary to the vibe - it's mostly light, and the secrets containing the green armor and the supercharge are the most useful, showing their utility in the pretty naughty arch-vile traps of the motherboard and shoe sections. Other than that, have fun and let yourself be carried by the exquisite mood.
