This is a gameplay Sample for Doom on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. I think this would have been awesome to own back in the day, as this was essentially the budget port of Doom, and to see it run on the Snes is an amazing feat. All other versions would have costed a lot more, especially if you didn't own a PC, which would have cost a couple if not more thousand dollars, along with the game. For better console versions, it would have costed the price of a 32X, 3DO, Jaguar, Saturn, or PS1, plus the game. So, considering that most people already owned a Snes, even if this version was more expensive to pick up than other Snes games thanks to the FX Chip, it would still have been a couple hundred dollars cheaper than acquiring another console version, and a couple thousand, if not more than acquiring the PC version as well.

However, in hindsight, I haven't played the 3DO version which from what I've seen and have been told has a lot of issues, so I can't compare it to that one, however, of the console versions of Doom I do own (32X,PS1, Xbox via Doom 3 Collectors edition) this is definitely the most sluggish retro version, and doesn't run even close to as smoothly as all other versions of the game.

If you're a retro collector that wants to collect Snes Doom just to add it to your collection, or this is your personal nostalgic version of the game, and you want to hear the Snes versions of the songs, I can recommend it to you. However, if you're looking for the best retro version, pick up the PS1 version as the Snes version will run you almost the same price. I actually recommend all other console version over the Snes version. Even the 32X version with it's butchered music and missing levels. It still plays worlds more smoothly.

The Snes version is still a really cool version of the game though, seeing as they actually got it to run on the system. Magical port, and is still playable, but stutters a lot. I like seeing "Impossible ports" on underpowered systems.
