Doom - Ultimate Doom "In Name Only" (E3M8: Dis): Ultra Violence Playthrough (By Nine Inch Heels)
11A bit of commentary on this Map:
No UV-Max for this one. Far, far above my skill level unfortunately. Really cool concept but way too hard for me :)
So, the concept of this map is The Spider Mastermind is the final Boss (as usual for E3M8 maps, the map ends when she is killed) but with a twist, It's set up as an Icon of Sin Fight. However, to add pressure to the player, as soon as you fire a shot, Hundreds of Demons start teleporting in (with a gigantic Caco-cloud at about 3 minutes). So, if you are looking to complete the map, its a fight against the clock essentially.
However, here's the kicker - if you want to get a UV-Max, you can only reach the Secret by doing a very tricky Rocket Jump. This crushes a ton of demons as well as giving you much needed supplies (which you'll need for the previously mentioned Cacodemons). Problem is, I'm simply not able to pull it off - I think this is only possible for a certain caliber of Doom Player (i.e. a DoomGod).
Again, really cool concept and I enjoyed it a lot more after I accepted what I could and couldn't do! My only complaint is I was a bit blind sighted by the huge difficulty spike (All good, can be expected in a Community Project)
About Ultimate Doom "In Name Only":
The project was designed to be a creative exercise in building levels around the original map titles for all 36 maps of the Ultimate Doom with an increasing emphasis on creating challenging but enjoyable maps that will even given experienced veterans a stern test (Especially for an Ultimate Doom megawad and especially so for episodes 3 and 4). All maps are built to a limit removing (complevel 3) format and are beatable from a pistol start, difficulty setting are included, but some may need a little refinement to pitch the difficulty with more precision. Co-op starts are included but anything beyond this will be patchy and dependent on the author who made the map.
