By Analou De Vera Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that her department seeks to reestablish the Philippines as a top international destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE). Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat(CZAR DANCEL / MANILA BULLETIN) Puyat said that professional congress organizers and venues in the Philippines that have links in international organizations can contribute heavily and encouraged them to collaborate with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to achieve this goal. The DOT targets to invite this year 40 MICE organizers and assist 140 MICE events, she said. The tourism chief said that the country has been constantly improving its status in terms of MICE ranking globally. From 2011 to 2017, Manila has been on the upper half of international congress and convention association cities including the most number of MICE events. “This is a good indication of our capital city’s capacity in hosting and organizing MICE events as well as international participants’ preference to hold their events in our country,” shared Puyat during a recent meeting with the industry players. Puyat said that it is “worth noting” that in the last few years, the Philippines hosted some of the biggest international MICE events.
