This is a capture of me and a friend playing through the arcade version of Double Dragon. This was played through the Arcade Archives on the Nintendo Switch. I'm player one (Billy) and Drew is player two (Jimmy).

The arcade version of Double Dragon was released on the Switch recently, and this constitutes the first time that the original game has been released on a Nintendo system.

Although I've always been a huge Double Dragon fan, I never had the chance to play the original game in the arcades. My first experience with the series was through the original NES game, which I probably received for Christmas of 1989 (if I'm remembering correctly). Although the NES version was good, it disappointingly lacked the cooperative two-player mode from the arcade.

However, the sequels on the NES did feature a cooperative mode, so I was a huge fan of the NES sequels, including Double Dragon III in particular. As a kid I would rent Double Dragon II and III for the NES and play the games with my brother.

Several years ago I finally got the chance to briefly try the original arcade game through a friend's Xbox 360 (there used to be a demo available on the system), but I didn't manage to play the entire game until it was recently released for the Switch.

The original arcade game is definitely awesome, but it suffers from serious slowdown at times and has some odd hit detection. With that said, Drew and I had lots of fun beating the game, but we had some trouble with the bridge in Mission 3. It seems that you have to jump earlier than you'd expect, otherwise you'll fall into the water. It's a good thing these arcade ports come with unlimited continues. Enjoy the footage.

Recorded with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 and the Switch's HDMI cable at native 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. I'm using a Real Arcade Pro V Hayabusa joystick and Drew is using a Pro Controller.
