With my students learning about the Silk Road and the Tang & Song Dynasty in class, now seemed like a good time to break out this old classic. Machiavelli: The Prince is an update to the old Merchant Prince. A pretty standard buy low/sell high trading sim, it nevertheless has its unique charm.
The stylized map is amazing, and huge. Sailing from London to Canton and back again in the 14th C is silly, but in the best way. Racing against 3 other scheming Venetian noble families, I strike out to strike it rich.
So far so good! Despite a few setbacks (ahem, ships lost at the bottom of the Baltic) the Riley family has increased their wealth, expanded the power of Venice throughout the Mediterranean, and has even landed that most coveted of positions... the Papacy!
