Recruiting Monsters is very useful for the island, here are what each available monster is good for, and no, stronger variations dont make them any better:

Slimes (Any)
Can produce Oil from Bonfires and are able to use as a ride monsters, allowing you to jump a little higher and not take fall damage.

Killer Robots
They're good for planting, watering and harvesting crops

Zombies/Walking Corpses:
Speed up the cask's process

Muddy hands:
Are able to craft items when given the materials

Chimaeras:
Can be used as a ride monster, can take you to high places

Golems:
Will draw aggro from the enemy and can terraform AND produce deserts

Powie Yowies:
With an Ice Lolly they can produce snowfields

Healslimes:
Will serve drinks at bars, will heal allies

Sabrecubs:
Can be used as a ride monster, can double jump and run fast

Hammerhoods:
Will smash blocks with the designated stickers (see the Skelkatraz Arc)

Living Statues:
Can produce Dyes from the extractors
Will pretend to be a statue

Liquid Metal Slime:
Will play Tag with you once a day, rewarding you 100 gratitude points.
